Carlsson has a medium hardness to it, harder than Pops. Hardness and grit are the main differences between brands of rosin. Although one brand can have a hard and soft version, the brand is usually associated with a certain hardness and a certain level of grit. The rule is: the softer the rosin, the grittier the sound. If a rosin is really hard, though, it takes a lot more effort to draw sound from the instrument.
