Pops rosin from Texas is really soft with an intense amount of grit, giving a grainy, gritty, sharp sound. We suggest leaving Pops upright in its case when not in use. By comparison, Nyman is a bit harder than Pops and has a less gritty sound.

Hardness and grit are the main differences between brands of rosin. Although one brand can have a hard and soft version, the brand is usually associated with a certain hardness and a certain level of grit. The rule is: the softer the rosin, the grittier the sound. If a rosin is really hard, though, it takes a lot more effort to draw sound from the instrument.
